Be Proud to Be a Muslim: The Honour of Faith in a Temporary World

A young boy kneels in prayer inside a mosque with sunlight streaming through the window.

In today’s world, where material success often defines status, it’s essential for Muslims to remember the true source of honour and dignity. We live in a time where wealth, fame, and luxury are glorified, yet none of these things hold value in the sight of Allah. As Muslims, we are blessed with something far more powerful—faith in the One true God.

Don’t Be Deceived by the Dazzle of This World

It’s easy to feel inferior when comparing ourselves to those who seem to “have it all.” But the Qur’an reminds us not to envy the material pleasures enjoyed by others:

“Do not look with longing at what We have given some of them to enjoy—the beauty of this worldly life. We are only testing them. But the provision from your Lord is better and will last forever…”
(Surah Taha, 20:131–132)

This ayah teaches us that worldly possessions are merely a test. They are not a sign of success or divine favour. The real treasure lies in what Allah has prepared for the believers—eternal reward, peace, and honour.

Islam Is Our Source of Honour

There is no shame in being Muslim. On the contrary, it is a badge of honour.

“Whoever wants honour, let them know—all honour belongs to Allah…”
(Surah Fatir, 35:10)

We are followers of a faith that teaches justice, mercy, strength, and spiritual dignity. Islam is not just a religion—it’s a way of life chosen by Allah. True honour comes not from titles or possessions, but from walking the path of truth with integrity.

The Story of Bilal ibn Rabah: A Legacy of Courage and Faith

One of the most powerful examples of honour through faith is the story of Bilal ibn Rabah (RA)—a former slave who became one of the most respected companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Despite being brutally tortured for believing in the Oneness of Allah, Bilal never wavered. Under intense suffering, he kept repeating:
“Ahad! Ahad!”
“One! One!”

These words weren’t just resistance—they were a declaration of his unwavering belief in Allah. Bilal didn’t have wealth, status, or social power. But his faith elevated him to a status higher than kings.

When Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (RA) saw his suffering, he paid for his freedom. And from that moment on, Bilal was not just a free man—he was a symbol of spiritual victory and honour.

What Truly Defines Success?

Success isn’t defined by how many followers you have, what car you drive, or how much money sits in your account. Those things fade. True success lies in your connection to Allah, your good deeds, and your commitment to the truth.

As the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Richness is not having many possessions, but richness is being content with oneself.”
(Bukhari & Muslim)

How Can We Strengthen Our Faith Today?

In the middle of distractions and worldly pressures, how can we remain strong and honourable like Bilal?

Here are 3 powerful steps:

1. Connect with the Qur’an

Start reading the Qur’an regularly—even if it’s just a few verses a day. Reflect on its meaning and let it guide your decisions. It is the manual for a successful life, both here and in the Hereafter.

2. Stay Consistent in Salah (Prayer)

Establish your daily prayers. Protect them. Make them a priority. Allah commands us:

“Tell your family to pray, and be patient in your own prayer…”
(Surah Taha, 20:132)

3. Surround Yourself with People of Faith

Your environment matters. Keep company with those who remind you of Allah, uplift your faith, and encourage you to stay on the right path.

Final Thought: Walk with Dignity, Live with Purpose

Never feel ashamed of being Muslim. You are part of the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ. You follow the path of the Qur’an. You are the spiritual sibling of Bilal, of Khadijah, of Umar, and of Aisha—may Allah be pleased with them all.

So walk with your head held high. Not with arrogance, but with humble pride—because your Islam is your greatest gift.

And remember:

“The good ending is for those who have Taqwa.”
(Surah Taha, 20:132)

May Allah keep our hearts firm on His religion and grant us honour in this world and the next. Ameen.
